ExcerptsSELF-HELP Groups(SHGS)Micro Finace (MF)In 2007, OMCC and DFN planned to launch a more formal Micro Finance program serving the Dalits. A total of 225 MF loans were planned in the initial phase of the program. These income-generating programs would be available to all recognized SHG members of OMCC/DFN. The purpose of these loans (locally called ‘Praramb’ loans) was income generation and asset development. These loans, extended for a term of six months to 50 weeks, came with low rates of interest. Recipients of the MF loans were expected to make weekly payments until the loan was completely paid off.
